Morphological parameters of vegetative organs of ornamental sunflower varieties depending on the method of cultivation

Decorative sunflower varieties are traditionally used in decorative gardening for cutting and when creating flower beds of a large area. Modern varieties differ in parameters that allow them to be used as a container culture, however, there is no information about the impact of a limited area of nutrition in the literature. The purpose of this study is to compare the methods of growing sunflower in the open and in the ground and in containers and to assess the variability of morphological features of vegetative parts of the plant with different methods of cultivation. The objects of the study were sunflower varieties ‘Gloriosa Evening’, ‘Red Sun’, ‘Red Sun’, medium-sized ‘Don Juan’, undersized ‘Bear Cub’, ‘Sunny Bunny'. The research was carried out in the laboratory of cultivated plants of the GBS RAS. Significant differences were established between the varieties in plant height, length and width of the leaf blade, and the length of the petiole. A reliable influence of the growing method on the parameters of the leaf blade was established, as well as the presence of an individual varietal reaction to the growing method. The structure of variability of quantitative characteristics was evaluated.
