Ecological assessment of the contribution of root and soil microbiota respiration from Albic Podzols (Arenic) and Albic Podzols (Arenic, Ochric) to CO2 flows in the above-floodplain terraces of the Seim River

The article presents data on the contribution of root and microbiota respiration to the total flow of carbon dioxide from the surface of Albic Podzols (Arenic) and Albic Podzols (Arenic, Ochric) of Kursk region. Three methods of separate determination of root respiration and soil microbiota respiration were used: 1 – root exclusion technique, 2 – сomponent integration, 3 – substrate-induced respiration (SIR). Root respiration in sandy soils of the above–floodplain terraces of the Seim River determined from 13,9 to 35,0% of the total CO2 flow from the soil surface, microbial respiration - 65 – 86,1%. The respiration rate of roots and rhizospheric microbiota in Albic Podzols (Arenic, Ochric) was 59,1% more than in Albic Podzols (Arenic). The greatest values of the contribution of microbiota respiration to the total CO2 flow were obtained using the SIR-method.
