Evaluation of uniformity of seedlings of Achillea millefolium and Achillea ptarmica in cassette cultivation

Obtaining quality aligned flower seedlings is very important in an automated production cycle. The purpose is to study the factors affecting the production of uniform high-quality seedlings of flower crops. The study was conducted on two species of yarrow - Achillea millefolium L. and Achillea ptarmica L. in 2022. It was found that A. ptarmica seedlings are more even in plant height (variation coefficient 12%), stem height from cotyledon leaves to apical meristem (14% sample variation), number of leaves (15%), and stem thickness in the first internode (17%) than A. millefolium (17, 22, 16, 20%, respectively). The average diameter in both species varies by 20% on average for the sample. The smallest uniformity of seedlings was noted in terms of area and perimeter, which the plant occupies when photographing the top view. The main contribution of the variability of traits is due to the individual characteristics of the yarrow species. This information may be useful for the industrial production of high-quality flower seedlings for urban gardening, as well as for the production of medicinal and cosmetic raw materials.
